the availability and support of the Recon rugged mobile hand-held computer running the
Linux® operating system. SDG Systems will market and sell the Linux Recon, providing
technical and warranty support. This exciting release provides a new option for those
searching for high performance and rugged durability in a hand-held computer.
Manufactured by Tripod Data Systems (TDS), the Recon has an outstanding track-record
of reliability.

SDG Systems also announced that the Linux Recon will be deployed by 10East
Corporation to existing and new rail customers. “Our rail customers have been asking for
a hand-held computer that will withstand the harsh work conditions and the inevitable

The Linux Recon is designed for all-day operation in extreme outdoor and industrialenvironments. It meets MIL-STD-810F military standards for drops, vibration and temperature extremes. It has an IP67 rating, meaning it is impervious to water and dust.Weighing in a 17 ounces, with widely-spaced buttons, a bright TFT reflective color
display and a comfortable grip, the Recon is a perfect fit for industrial applications. Its
power comes from the reliable XScale® processor.
The Linux Recon utilizes version 2.6.12 of the Linux kernel. Its user interface is based onQtopia PDA Edition, version 2.1.2. The GNU / Linux utilities are based on the Familiar
Linux distribution, version 0.8.2.
